[KABH]-PΩN Nike advancing right, holding wreath in her right hand and palm frond over her left shoulder. HGC 7, 272. SNG BM Black Sea 1243-1246. Traces of overstriking, otherwise, fine. Our coin is an overstrike on an earlier type, clearly identifiable from traces of the undertype visible on the reverse. The undertype is likewise Pontic or Paphlagonian, with a helmeted head of Mars on the obverse and a sword on the reverse. This type was struck at several mints such as Amisos, Chabakta, Gazioura, Pimolisa, Sinope, and Taulara. This lot cannot be shipped to a US address. Starting price: 25 CHF |  |

| Lot description: SELEUKID KINGS. Antiochos IX Eusebes Philopator (Kyzikenos), 114/3-95 BC. AE (Bronze, 12 mm, 1.38 g, 12 h), unattributed issues. Bearded head of Herakles to right. Rev. [Β]ΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟ[Υ] / [Φ]ΙΛΟΠΑΤ[ΟΡΟΣ] Nike advancing left, holding wreath in her extended right hand and palm branch in her left. CSE 345 ('Antioch on the Orontes'). HGC 9, 1263. SC 2401. Extremely rare and very interesting. Struck on a short flan and with some deposits, otherwise, good very fine. Ex Sol 49, 3 January 2026, 166. SC was very cautious in its assessment of this extremely rare Seleukid issue, noting that it does not conform to any known mint of Antiochos IX and concluding that 'most likely this bronze is a one-time issue from a city that had no experience as a Seleucid mint.' The identity of this city, somewhere in the rapidly shrinking Seleukid realm, remains unclear. In view of the incessant infighting among the late Seleukids, it may have been a mint only briefly controlled by Antiochos IX, which would explain the coin's extreme rarity today. SNG Stancomb 799. A beautiful piece with an attractive patina and a lovely Aegis. Struck slightly off center, otherwise, good very fine. Somewhat rough and with traces of overstriking, otherwise, very fine. Our coin is an overstrike on an earlier type, clearly identifiable from traces of the undertype visible on the reverse. The undertype is likewise Pontic or Paphlagonian, with a helmeted head of Mars on the obverse and a sword on the reverse. This type was struck at several mints - Chabakta, Gazioura, Pimolisa, Sinope, and Taulara - but an attribution to Amisos seems most likely (HGC 7, 241). This lot cannot be shipped to a US address.
