| Lot description: KINGS OF PONTOS. Mithradates VI Eupator, circa 120-63 BC. Stater (Gold, 19 mm, 8.26 g, 12 h), First Mithradatic War issue, in the name and types of Lysimachos of Thrace. Istros, circa 88-86. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right, with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated left, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand and leaning with her left arm on shield; behind, transverse spear; in inner left field, ΔI; on throne, ΙΣ; in exergue, ornate trident to left. AMNG I 482. Callataÿ p. 139, D1/R1. SNG Copenhagen 1094 (same dies). Lightly toned and with an unusually fine portrait. Struck from a slightly worn reverse die, otherwise, about extremely fine.
