| Lot description: Greece, Cappadocia, Ariarathes VII Philometor, Drachm Silver drachm of Ariarathes VII Philometor (116–100 BC) struck at the mint of Eusebeia in Cappadocia, belonging to the Hellenistic coinage of the Cappadocian kingdom, which functioned within the political sphere of influence first of the Seleucids and later increasingly of the Roman Republic. Ariarathes VII, a ruler of the Ariarathid dynasty, is attested in historical sources as king of Cappadocia pursuing a policy aimed at maintaining the independence of his state amid pressure from the Kingdom of Pontus and growing Roman involvement in the affairs of Asia Minor.
