| Lot description: ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Samothrace. Circa 1st century BC. (Bronze, 17.5 mm, 3.09 g, 12 h), struck under the magistrate Phrynichos, struck after 50s. Helmeted bust of Athena to right. Rev. ΦΡΥΝΙΧΟY CAMOΘPAKHC (partially retrograde) Kerykeion. BMC -. HGC 6, -. Cf. Imhoof-Blumer, Münzkunde, p. 256 (this magistrate, but differing type) & Φαρδύς, Νομισματικά Σαμοθράκης, in: JIAN 1 (1898), pp. 257 & 261-262 (for similar type, but differing magistrates). An apparently unpublished - apart from the auction appearance of this coin - and seemingly unique. Scratches on the reverse, otherwise, good fine. From the CG Collection, ex Leu e18, 18 December 2021, 227. Do note that the presence of the C-shaped sigma is an indication that this series should be dated most likely later in the 1st century BC, and definitely after the first half of the century.
