| Lot description: JUDAEA, Procurators. Pontius Pilate. 26-36 CE. Æ Prutah (15.5mm, 2.18 g, 6h). In the name of Tiberius. Jerusalem mint. Dated RY 18 of Tiberius (31/2 CE). L IH (date) within wreath (inverted) / Lituus. F&G type 3 Ba; Meshorer 334a; Hendin 6372a; RPC I 4969; Dow, ACTTB, p. 153 (this coin). Earthen brown patina. VF. A rare, but known, variety with the wreath having ties at the top. From the Joseph A. Dow Collection, purchased from Zuzim Judaea inventory JP226. The present coin is published in Joseph A. Dow, Ancient Coins Through the Bible (Mustang, OK: Tate, 2011), in the chapter The Roman Procurators of Judaea (AD 6–66).
