| Lot description: Ancients Domitian, as Augustus (AD 81-96). AE as (27mm, 9.79 gm, 7h). NGC VG 4/5 - 4/5, repatinated. Rome, 14 September-31 December AD 88. IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM-P M TR P VIII CENS PER P P, laureate head of Domitian right / COS XIIII-LVD SAEC FEC, Domitian standing facing (on right), head left, sacrificing from patera in outstretched right hand over lit and garlanded altar at feet before, lyre and flute players standing right (on left); hexastyle temple with wreath in pediment beyond, S C in exergue. RIC II.1 623. This series honors the Ludi Saeculares (or Secular Games), which was a religious celebration held once a century to mark the end and beginnings of generations.
