| Lot description: Ancients Octavian, as Imperator and Triumvir (43-33 BC). AR denarius (20mm, 3.51 gm, 4h). NGC Choice VF 5/5 - 1/5, scratches, brushed, smoothing. Commemorating the capture of Egypt, uncertain Eastern mint, ca. 28 BC. CAESAR•DIVI•F-COS•VI, bare head of Augustus right; capricorn right below truncation / AEGVPTO / CAPTA, crocodile advancing right. RIC I 545. This coin is of the utmost historical importance, because it refers to the consolidation of the Roman power and reach, under the control of Augustus. Augustus accomplished this with his victory over Marc Antony and Cleopatra at Actium and their subsequent suicides.
