EGYPT. Alexandria. Gallienus, 253-268. Tetradrachm (Potin, 20.5 mm, 10.39 g, 1 h), Dated regnal year IE (15) = 267/8. ΑΥΤ Κ Π ΛΙΚ ΓΑΛΛΙΗΝΟC CΕΒ Laureate and cuirassed bust of Gallienus to right. Rev. L IE Draped bust of Selene to right; before, crescent and palm. Dattari 5265. Milne 4157-8. RPC X, ID 75551.27 (this coin). Rare, and with an attractive chocolate-brown patina; published in RPC Online. Good very fine.

Lacroix (1909-2016) was recognized for his articles and various books on Greek history, numismatics, and iconography. He served as professor of Greek archaeology and art history at the University of Liége for over 25 years. He was well-known for his influential work 'Les reproductions de statues sur les monnaies grecques: la statuaire archaique et classique' (Liége, 1949).
