LUCANIA, Velia. Circa 300-280 BC. AR Nomos (20mm, 7.23 g, 11h). Philistion Group. Helmeted head of Athena right, crest-holder inscribed ΦIΛIΣTIΩNOΣ, charioteer in quadriga right on the bowl, and horseman riding right on neck guard / Lion standing left, sword in jaws; above, Nike flying left, holding wreath, and [ΦI]; waves below. Williams 406 (O201/R287); HN Italy 1303; SNG Ashmolean 1311 (same dies); Boston MFA 154 (same dies); Dow, ACTTB, p. 89 (this coin). Toned, minor deposits, weakly struck, lamination on obverse. Near VF.
