| Lot description: Ancients Julius Caesar, as Dictator Perpetuo (ca. February-March 44 BC), with Publius Sepullius Macer, as Moneyer. AR denarius (20mm, 3.99 gm, 2h). NGC Choice VF 4/5 - 2/5, scuffs. Rome. CAESAR-DICT PERPETVO, veiled, wreathed head of Julius Caesar right / P•SEPVLLIVS / MACER, Venus standing facing, head left, Victory standing left in outstretched right hand, grounded scepter in left with shield at base. Crawford 480/13. Sydenham 1074. Julia 50 and Sepullia 5. This series of coins containing the "DICT PERPETVO", or Dictator in Perpetuity, in conjunction with his lifetime portrait, is considered by historians as the coins that killed Caesar.
