Thessaly. Larissa, circa 356-342 BC. AR Drachm (18.9 mm, 6.06 g.). Head of the nymph Larissa facing, turned slightly to right, wearing ampyx, pendant earrings, and necklace with central bead. Rev. ΛΑΡΙΣΑΙ, bridled horse grazing to left. BCD Thessaly I, 1142; BCD Thessaly II, 213; L-S group 5, Head Type 24 (O114/R2); HGC 4, 430. An emotional facing portrait of Larissa, with the fully centered inscription of the name on the reverse. Exceptional image of the body of the horse, obviously made by very skillful engraver also perfect connoisseur observer of the equine anatomy. Perfectly shaped flank even vains visible! otherwise, good very fine.
