Lot description: THESSALY. Larissa. Circa 420-400 BC. Drachm (Silver, 22 mm, 5.96 g, 5 h). The hero Thessalos, with his petasos and chlamys hanging around his neck, restraining a bull leaping to left by a band wrapped around its head. Rev. ΛAPI-ΣAIA Bridled horse galloping to right, trailing reins; all within an incuse square. BCD Thessaly II 173-174. HGC 4, 420. Lorber, Thessalian, 52. Well-centered and nicely toned. Very fine. From the Collection of Prof. James M. Collier, acquired from Archea Ancient Art in Amsterdam in 2010. Thessalos, nude except for petasos and cloak tied at his neck, holding band across the horns of a bull leaping to left. Rev. ΛΑΡΙ/ΣΑΙΑ (Σ retrograde) Horse leaping to right, trailing reins; all within incuse square. BCD Thessaly II 175. HGC 5, 420. Lorber, Thessalian 52. Exceptional for issue; fine style.
