Lot description: THESSALY. Larissa. Circa 356-342 BC. Drachm (Silver, 20 mm, 6.01 g, 12 h). Head of the nymph Larissa facing, turned slightly to left, wearing ampyx and simple necklace. Rev. ΛΑΡΙΣ / ΑΙΩΝ Horse crouching to right, preparing to roll; below the horse's belly, trident head downwards to right. BCD Thessaly II 322. Cf. Herrmann Pl. V, 14. Cf. HGC 4, 454 (but trident not noted). Lorber, Hoard, Group L-IV. A rare variety with the trident head on the reverse. Well-struck and attractively toned. About extremely fine. From the Collection of Prof. James M. Collier, acquired from A.H.Baldwin in London on 17 January 2001.
