Lacking any noteworthy defects or damage, this wholesome and evenly-circulated coin makes a great example of this late Solidus issuance.

HGC-2, 1289; SNG ANS-350-6. Obverse: Head of Herakles left, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square; in deeper incuse circle in center, small female head (Arethousa?) left, wearing necklace. Noted edge filing aside, this is a highly presentable example of this diminutive gold issue. Moderate circulation on each side with hints of earthen deposits that augments the coin's wholesome look.

This is a visually impressive piece with intense satin luster and intricate detail throughout. Nicely centered for the type, it is traced back to B. Max Mehl's sale of the Frederick W. Geiss Collection in 1947.
