KINGS of MACEDON. Philip III Arrhidaios. 323-317 BC. AV Stater (18mm, 8.53 g, 3h). In the types of Alexander III. Babylon mint. Struck under Archon, Dokimos, or Seleukos I, circa 323-318/7 BC. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet decorated with a coiled serpent / BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΦIΛI-ΠΠOY, Nike, wearing long chiton, standing left, holding wreath in extended right hand and cradling stylis in left arm; wheel and monogram below left wing. Price P193 var. (position of wheel); CNG 90, lot 468 (same dies); Lanz 144, lot 156 (same dies). Underlying luster. EF. Very rare variety.
