Lot description: Ancients Julius Caesar, as Dictator Perpetuo (ca. February-March 44 BC), with Publius Sepullius Macer, as Moneyer. AR denarius (19mm, 3.67 gm, 2h). NGC XF 4/5 - 5/5. Rome. CAESAR-DICT PERPETVO, wreathed head of Caesar right / P•SEPVLLIVS downward on right, MACER downward on left, Venus standing facing, head left, Victory standing left in outstretched right hand, scepter in left with shield at base. Crawford 480/10. Sydenham 1073. Stormy surfaces with bursts of electric sapphire and umber. Ex Heritage Auctions, Auction 3030 (6 January 2014), lot 23904. This series of coins containing the "DICT PERPETVO", or Dictator in Perpetuity, in conjunction with his lifetime portrait, is considered by historians as the coins that killed Caesar.
