Lot description: The Jonathan H. Kagan Collection of Ancient Greek Coins BOEOTIA. Haliartos. Circa 400-375 BC. Stater (Silver, 23 mm, 12.33 g, 4 h). Boeotian shield emblazoned with a trident. Rev. ARI-[AR]-T-IO-N Poseidon advancing to right, brandishing trident with his right hand and extending his left before him. BCD Boiotia 163 (this coin). BMC 16. HGC 4, 1196. Pozzi 1378 (same dies). Traité III, 296. Extremely rare, one of possibly three known examples of this die combination. Beautifully toned and well-centered. The reverse is slightly double struck and has the usual die break over Poseidon's head, otherwise, nearly extremely fine. From the Collections of Jonathan H.
