Mark Antony, 44-30 BC. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 4.00 g, 12 h), with Lucius Antony and M. Cocceius Nerva. Ephesus, summer 41. M•ANT•IMP AVG III VIR•R•P•C•M NERVA PROQ•P Bare head of Mark Antony to right. Rev. L•ANTONIVS COS Bare head of Lucius Antony to right. Babelon (Antonia) 48 and (Cocceia) 2. Crawford 517/5a. CRI 246. Sydenham 1185. A fresh and well struck example. Tiny marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

Lucius Antony supported his older brother Mark in various commands in the turbulent years following Caesar's assassination and even celebrated a triumph for his victory against Alpine tribes in 41 BC. In 40 BC, Octavian appointed Lucius to governor of Spain, but he subsequently disappears from all sources, indicating that he died soon thereafter.
