| Lot description: KINGS OF PONTOS. Mithradates VI Eupator, circa 120-63 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.63 g, 12 h), year 207 of the Bithyno-Pontic era = 91/0 BC. Diademed head of Mithradates VI to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - MIΘPAΔATOY / EYΠATOPOΣ Pegasus grazing left; to left, star-in-crescent (Pontic royal badge); to right, ZΣ (year) above monogram; all within Dionysiac wreath of ivy and fruit. Callataÿ p. 11, D37/R3. DCA 688. RG p. 16, 15. SNG Paris 796 (same obverse die). An attractive piece with an unusually individualistic portrait.
