Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.13 g, 5h). Emesa mint. Struck AD 194-195. Laureate head right / S P Q R OPTI MO PBINCIPI [sic], Septimius on horseback left, holding spear. RIC IV 415 var. (rev. legend spelling); Bickford-Smith 27; RSC 652 var. (same). Dark find patina, granular surfaces, minor deposits, scratches, a couple of edge tests. VF. Although not specifically listed in the references, the variety with the spelling error on the reverse is much more common than the variety which is spelled correctly.
