Sicily, Syracuse, Second Democracy, (c.466-405 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.11 g), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer holding kentron in right hand and reins in both hands, above Nike flying right crowning horses, rev. SURAKOSI ON around to right, head of Arethusa to right, hair in ornamented sakkos, four dolphins clockwise around, (cf.S.914, Boehringer Series XXI 660 [obverse 333/reverse 448], Gillet 586 var, (Nike left, same obv. die), Virzi Sale 261 (same dies)). Attractively toned, good very fine and rare.
