PONTOS. Amisos. Time of Mithradates VI Eupator, circa 85-65 BC. (Bronze, 21 mm, 11.45 g, 11 h). Head of Perseus to right, wearing Phrygian helmet decorated with stars. Rev. AMIΣOY Pegasos grazing to left; in left field and below, monograms. HGC 7, 239. Malloy 33m. SNG BM Black Sea 1217. Well-centered, and with an attractive reddish-brown patina. Somewhat rough surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.

AMIΣOY Nike advancing to right, holding palm branch and wreath. HGC 7, 244. Malloy 38. SNG BM Black Sea 1218-9 var. (no star in crescent). Scarce without 'star in crescent' on reverse. Somewhat rough surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.



The Amazon / Nike type of Amisos is usually encountered with a star in crescent on the reverse (recorded by Malloy as #40). Coins without this mintmark (Malloy 38) are much scarcer!
