Lot description: Ancients Marcian, Eastern Roman Empire (AD 450-457). AV solidus (21mm, 4.47 gm, 6h). NGC Gem MS 5/5 - 5/5. Constantinople, 7th officina. D N MARCIA-NVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, helmeted, cuirassed bust of Marcian facing, head slightly right, spear in right hand over shoulder, shield decorated with horseman motif in left / VICTORI-A AVGGG Z, Victory standing facing, head left, grounded long jeweled cross with horizontal crossbar in right hand; star in right field, CONOB in exergue. RIC X 510. Pristine strike with exquisite detail on richly gleaming flan. Ex Heritage Auctions 3035 (3 September 2014), lot 29268.
