Nero, as Augustus (AD 54-68). AE dupondius (28mm, 15.43 gm, 5h). NGC Choice VF 5/5 - 3/5, light smoothing. Rome, ca. AD 64. NERO CLAVD CAESAR AVG GER P M TR P IMP P P, radiate head of Nero right / MAC-AVG, frontal view of the Macellum Magnum, its domed central section in two stories and approached by steps, flanked by two-storied wings of unequal height, with porticoes; male figure standing left in center above the steps, grounded scepter in second; S-C across fields, II (mark of value) below steps. RIC I 184. A charming portrait of Nero and fabulous rendering of an architectural structure all on a handsomely toned flan.
