Lot description: Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, Ptolemy I Soter (305/4-282 BC), AR Tetradrachm, 310-305 BC, Attic Standard, Mint of Alexandria, horned and diademed bust of Alexander the Great in the guise of Zeus-Ammon right, wearing Elephant head-dress, small delta upon aegis, rev. Athena Alkidemos right, brandishing javelin in right hand and holding shield in left, two monograms to right field, with eagle standing right upon thunderbolt below, monogram to left field, 15.57g, 12h (BMC 20; Svoronos 146; SNG Copenhagen 18), a confident striking with a banker's crescent mark to cheek, bright and nicely toned, spot of dark colouring at 3 o'clock, otherwise very fine.
