Michael VIII Palaeologus (AD 1261-1282). AV/EL hyperpyron (26mm, 4.23 gm, 6h). NGC AU 4/5 - 2/5, graffiti. Constantinople. Half-length figure of the Virgin, orans, within city wall of six towers / X/M/A/Π/TH-O/Π/Λ, Michael VIII facing, kneeling slightly right, being presented by nimbate Archangel Michael standing facing behind, to Christ seated facing slightly left, scroll in left hand; IC-XC (barred) in fields.
