Lot description: KINGS of MACEDON. Demetrios I Poliorketes. 306-283 BC. AR Drachm (18.5mm, 4.13 g, 1h). Salamis mint. Struck circa 298-295 BC. Nike standing left on prow of galley left, blowing trumpet and cradling stylis / Poseidon Pelagaios standing left, preparing to throw trident; HP monogram to left, labrys to right. Cf. Newell 22 (tetradrachm); HGC 3, 1016 var. (unlisted mint). Toned, much find patina remaining, some roughness, scratches. VF. Extremely rare Salamis mint drachm of Demetrios, an issue unknown to Newell. Estimate: 150 USD |
