| Lot description: GRÈCE ANTIQUE - GREEK Mysie, Cyzique. Statère d'électrum ND (500-450 av. J.-C.), Cyzique. NGC Ch XF 5/5 3/5 Fine style (6642244-001). Av. Lion debout à droite, une épée dans la gueule ; au-dessous, un thon à droite. Rv. Carré creux quadripartite. Frappe parfaitement centrée sur un spectaculaire flan oblong. Lion et thon de hauts reliefs, bien détaillés. Sans doute l'un des plus beaux exemplaires connus. Superbe à Fleur de coin. Selon la légende, Cyzique aurait été bâtie par Cyzique, fils d'Apollon ou plus vraisemblablement par les Milésiens au VIIe siècle avant J.-C. Ville côtière de la Mysie, sur la Propontide (mer de Marmara), la ville est un carrefour entre le Pont-Euxin et la mer Égée, entre l'Europe et l'Asie, point de passage entre la Thrace et l'Asie mineure. Grâce à sa situation, Cyzique était une importante place commerçante et un centre de pêche au thon qui en fit une cité florissante, célèbre pour sa beauté et sa richesse. High reliefs for the lion and the tuna, lots of details. One of the most beautiful known examples. Extremely Fine According to the legend, Cyzicus would have been built by Cyzicus, son of Apollo or more likely by the Milesians, during the 7th century BC. Built on the coast of Mysia, on the Propontis (sea of Marmara), this city is a crossroads between the Euxine (Black Sea) and the Aegean Sea, between Europe and Asia, between Thrace and Asia Minor (Anatolia). Thanks to its location, Cyzicus was an important trading place and a tuna fishing place, which made it a flourishing city, well-known for its beauty and wealth.
