MACEDON. Kingdom of Macedon. Alexander III (the Great), 336-323 B.C. AR Drachm (4.29 gms), Sardes Mint, ca. 324/3 B.C. NGC Ch AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Overstruck.
Pr-2553; HGC-3.1, 914e. Lifetime issue. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left on throne, holding scepter and eagle; monogram in left field; below throne, rose below strut. An extremely sharp and lustrous Drachm. While struck from a slightly worn obverse die, the coin bears little evidence of wear and only a few marks visible on the reverse.
