Lot description: Isaac Comnenus. Usurper in Cyprus, 1185-1191. Æ Tetarteron (21mm, 2.71 g, 6h). Main mint (Nicosia?). Struck 1187-circa 1991. Half-length facing bust of the Theotokos, orans / Crowned half-length facing bust of Isaac, wearing jeweled chlamys, holding cruciform scepter and globus cruciger. DOC 6; SB 1993. Dark brown-green patina. Good Fine. A clear legend with a longer form of despotes than is recorded in DOC (though known from auction records). Estimate: 150 USD |
