Lot description: CILICIA, Tarsus. Gordian III. AD 238-244. Æ (66mm, 15.29 g, 1h). Struck AD 238. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / River-god Cydnus reclining left, holding cornucopia and resting elbow in urn from which water flows. RPC VII.2 3015.2 (this coin); SNG BN –; SNG Levante Supp. 281 (same dies). Earthen green and orange patina, patch of roughness on obverse. VF. Very rare, only three known to RPC, including this coin.
