NABATAEA. Obodas II, with Hagaru I, 30-9 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 6.90 g, 12 h), RY 3 = 28/7 BC. Jugate diademed and draped busts of Obodas II and Hagaru I to right. Rev. ''bdt mlk' mlk nbtw snt 3' ('Obodas the king, king of the Nabataeans, year 3' in Nabataean) Eagle with closed wings standing left. Barkay 25. Meshorer 21. Very rare and in wonderful condition for this difficult issue. The obverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, good very fine.

Rabbel II Soter was the last ruler of the Nabataean Kingdom. After his death Trajan established direct Roman rule in what became known as the province of Arabia Petraea with Bostra as capital.

In a rare departure from the usual practice of placing the portrait of Ptolemy I Soter on the obverse of Ptolemaic silver, this coin instead depicts Dionysos, the supposed divine progenitor of the Ptolemaic dynasty.
