PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter. As satrap, 323-305/4 BC. AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 16.89 g, 12h). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Salamis mint. Struck under Menelaus, circa 315-306 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; monogram and rudder in left field, monogram below throne. Zapiti & Michaelidou –; Price 3169 corr. (monogram below throne; same obv. die as illustration); Newell, Some –. Toned, struck slightly off center on obverse with worn die. Good Fine. Very rare, only the BM example in Pella (the example noted by Price), one in CoinArchives.
