Ptolemy Apion, or Apion, born between 150 BC and 145 BC, held the title of the last Greek King of Cyrenaica, a region he separated from the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt. As a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, Apion was the son of Ptolemy VIII Physcon, who ruled as the king of Egypt, Cyrene, and Cyprus. His mother is often believed to be Eirene, a mistress of Ptolemy VIII around 147 BC, though this claim lacks definitive evidence. Around 105-101 BC, Ptolemy Apion received Cyrene as a distinct kingdom. However, historical records of his reign in Cyrenaica are scarce, and some scholars have cast doubt on whether he effectively ruled the region. Apion passed away in 96 BC without any heirs. In his last will, he made a significant decision by bequeathing Cyrenaica and his ancestral royal estates to the Roman Republic. This bequest marked the end of independent Greek rule in Cyrenaica and contributed to the establishment of Cyrenaica as a Roman province in 74 BC
