Hadrian. Sestertius; Hadrian; 117-138 AD, Rome, c. 129-30 AD, Sestertius, 25.30g. RIC-1274 (R3). Obv: HADRIANVS - AVGVSTVS Laureate bust r., wreath ties crossed, fold of cloak on front shoulder. Rx: COS III P P - IVS - TITIA AVG around, S C in exergue, Justitia seated l. holding patera and scepter. Ex Curtis L. Clay Collection; ex NAC 95, 26 October 1995, 593. RIC-1274 recorded only one Justitia sestertius, in BM, for this issue with reverse legend beginning COS III P P. Our coin might be only the second known sestertius of this type; it is from a different reverse die than the BM specimen, and also has a different bust type.Some isolated hairlines in front of emperor's portrait.
