Lot description:

TRAJAN, A.D. 98-117. AE Sestertius, Rome Mint, A.D. 115-116. ANACS EF-40. Repatinated.
RIC-652 var. (bust type); Woytek-542t+ (citing just two examples). Obverse: Laureate bust right, wearing aegis and balteus; Reverse: Fortuna seated left on throne, holding rudder and cornucopia. A fairly RARE and impressive bust type, this example does exhibit some repatination to the surfaces, but nevertheless retains solid detail paired with a well centered strike. Erroneously cited as a coin of Hadrian on the holder.

Estimate: $600 - $900
