Lot description:

Crete, Kydonia. Silver Stater (10.66 g), ca. 320-270 BC
Head of Artemis Diktynna left, wearing a ivy wreath. Reverse: ΚΥΔΩΝ, the archer Kydon standing left, stringing his bow. Svoronos 24; cf. Le Rider pl. X, 5. NGC grade Ch F; Strike: 4/5, Surface: 2/5. Brushed. Ancient Kydonia was centered around the present day harbor area and Kastelli Hill, and its excavated archaeological remains are largely stored in the Chania Archaeological Museum. The principal motif of the flag of Chania, just like the reverse of the very rare stater offered here, shows the hero Kydon stringing his bow.

Estimate: 500 USD
