Lot description: Caracalla, (198-217 A.D.), silver denarius (3.23 g), struck in 216, obv. ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM, laureate head to right, rev. P M TR P XVIIII COS IIII P P, radiate lion walking left, carrying thunderbolt in mouth, (S.6844, RIC VI 283c; BMCRE 178; Hill 1550; RSC 367). Toned, extremely fine, and rare. x Dr V.J.A. Flynn Collection, previously from Roma Numismatica with their tickets. The radiate lion symbolizes the Emesan solar diety and religion to which the imperial family had ties through Julia Domna.
