John II Comnenus, 1118-1143. Hyperpyron (Gold, 28 mm, 4.38 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis, 1118-1122. IC - XC Christ, nimbate, seated facing on throne without back, wearing pallium and colobium, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in his left. Rev. + IⲰ ΔЄCΠΟTH Facing half-length bust of John II on the left, wearing crown and loros, holding akakia in his right hand and patriarchal cross together with Virgin Mary, facing on the right, nimbate, wearing pallium and maphorium; above the head of the emperor, manus Dei; in field to right, ΘV - MP. DOC 1a. SB 1938. Fresh and attractive. Minor bang on the obverse and struck from a somewhat worn reverse die, otherwise, extremely fine.
