Lot description: Licinius II, Caesar, 317-324. Follis (Bronze, 20 mm, 3.63 g), brockage mint error, Antiochia, 317-320. D N VAL LICIN LICINIVS NOB C Laureate and cuirassed bust of Licinius I to left, holding mappa in his right hand and globe and scepter in his left. Rev. [IOVI CONS-ERVA]TORI CAESS / Δ / [SMANT] [Jupiter standing front, head to left, holding Victory on globe in his right hand and scepter in his left; at his feet, captive kneeling left]. Cf. RIC 29. Light deposits and with minor traces of cleaning, otherwise, very fine. From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969. Most of the reverse shows the imprint of the obverse of a similar coin, apparently stuck in the free reverse die when it struck the already complete coin. Starting price: 50 CHF |
