Lot description:

Constantius II, as Caesar, 324-337. Follis (Silvered bronze, 20 mm, 2.76 g, 12 h), Constantinopolis, 326. FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantius II to left. Rev. PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS / CONS Campgate with two turrets and no doors; above, star; in field to left, A. RIC 10. Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The RIC 10 coins for Constantius II constitute two groups. The group with a small bust is twice as large as the group with a large bust. Ramskold considers the large bust type - such as the one on this coin - to have been introduced when production for Crispus was cut short afer his fall from grace.

Starting price: 25 CHF
