Lot description:

Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 17 mm, 2.24 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Siscia, irregular mint, after 318. Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Constantine to left, holding spear over his right shoulder and decorated shield on his left; around, imitative legend. Rev. Two victories standing facing each other and holding shield inscribed VI/OP over altar; around, imitative legend and mintmark. Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This is a contemporary imitation of the so called Danubian type of Constantine's 'VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP' coinage, which was struck from 318 in Siscia. Interestingly, the legends have been produced by punching the letters into the dies.
