Lot description:

Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 3.51 g, 7 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Aquileia, irregular mint, after 322. CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB Laureate head of Constantine II to right. Rev. CAESARVM NOSTROPVM / [A]QS around wreath containing VOT / X flanked by two palm fronds. Cf. RIC 111 (for prototype). Slightly rough and with a small die break on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The style of this coin is clearly unofficial, indicating a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation. Interestingly, the obverse die was used also with a 'VIRTV-S AVGG' reverse with an Arelate mint mark.

Starting price: 25 CHF
