Lot description: Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.77 g, 6 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Arelate, irregular mint, after 326. CONSTAN-TINVS AVG Laureate head of Constantine I to right. Rev. VIRTV-S AVGG / S - F / ARLS Campgate with open doors and four turrets; above, star. Cf. RIC 313 (for prototype). Minor roughness and corrosion on the reverse, otherwise, about extremely fine. From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969. The style of this coin is clearly unofficial, indicating that it is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation. It is based on RIC 313 (Arelate), but the bust is of Treveran style, not that of Arelate.
