| Lot description: Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 19 mm, 3.28 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Arelate, irregular mint, after 321. CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to right. Rev. CAESARVM NOSTRORVM / TAR around wreath containing VOT / X in two lines. Cf. RIC 251 (for possible prototype). A lovely imitation with a fine style portrait. The reverse a bit weak, otherwise, extremely fine. From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969. The style of this coin is clearly unofficial, especially the draped cuirass, indicating that it is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation. It copies an emission from Arelate but the mint mark 'TAR' is not official. Starting price: 25 CHF |  |
