| Lot description: Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 20 mm, 2.53 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri, irregular mint, after 320. CONSTANTI-NVS IVN N S Radiate and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to right. Rev. VIRTS EXERCT / PTR Two captives seated at base of vexillum inscribed VOT / XX. Cf. RIC 277 (for possible prototype). Minor smoothing, otherwise, good very fine. From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969. The style of this coin is clearly unofficial, indicating that it is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation. It copies RIC 277 (Treveri), but with the bust to right, not left, and the reverse legend lacking two letters. Starting price: 25 CHF |  |
