Lot description:

Commemorative Series, 330-354. Follis (Bronze, 17 mm, 2.51 g, 6 h), Treveri, 332-333. VRBS ROMA Helmeted and mantled bust of Roma to left, the helmet decorated with a palm branch (or feather) and a volute on the bowl. Rev. She-wolf standing left, suckling Romulus and Remus; above, two eight-pointed stars; in exergue, TR•S. RIC 542 var. An extremely rare and very interesting helmet decoration. Struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This appears to be the only known example of Roma wearing a decorated helmet in the entire coinage of 330-337.

Starting price: 75 CHF
