Lot description: L. Procilius, 80 BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 2.07 g, 11 h), Rome. Head of Juno Sospita to right, wearing goat-skin headdress; behind, S•C. Rev. L•PROCILI•F Juno Sospita in biga to right, hurling spear with her right hand and holding shield with her left; below horses, serpent with head erect to right. Babelon (Procilia) 2. Crawford 379/2. RBW 1407. Sydenham 772. The obverse struck somewhat off center and with some die rust on the reverse, otherwise, very fine. Ex Leu Web Auction 18, 19-21 December 2021, 2386, from the Red Ox Collection, the collection of the Czech musician Adolf Picek (circa 1885-1978), and formerly in the possession of an Italian banker, whose life was saved by Mr. Picek in the Battles of the Piave River on the Italian Front in 1917-1918 and who presented his savior with 'four socks of old coins' in reward.
