PHRYGIA. Temenothyrae. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Medallion (Bronze, 45 mm, 50.34 g), Gaius Arruntius Nikomachos Τiberinianus, high priest and first archon for the second time. Time of Philip I, circa 244-249. ΙЄΡΑ ϹΥΝ-ΚΛΗΤΟϹ Draped bust of the Senate to left. Rev. ΑΡΟΥΝ ΝЄΙΚΟΜΑΧΟϹ ΑΡΧΙЄΡЄΥϹ ΑΡΧ Α ΤΟ Β ΤΗΜЄΝΟΘΥΡЄΥϹΙ Heracles standing front, head to left, holding torch (?) in his right hand and club and lion skin in his left; to left, Eros pulling rope attached to Herakles' right leg; in background to left, column surmounted by statue. RPC VIII 20262. A spectacular and artistic large medallion with lovely earthen highlights. Minor pitting, otherwise, good very fine.
