| Lot description: CYPRUS. Kition. Baalmelek II, circa 425-400 BC. Stater (Silver, 25 mm, 11.00 g, 6 h). Herakles in fighting stance to right, wearing lion skin, holding club overhead in right hand and bow extended before him in left hand. Rev. Lion attacking stag right; all within dotted border within incuse square. BMC 35. SNG Copenhagen 9-10. Tziambazis 19. A very interesting piece. Traces of overstriking and the obverse struck somewhat off center, otherwise, good very fine. From a European collection, formed before 2005. The undertype of this issue of Baalmelek II is an extremely rare stater by the uncertain king Mo... from Amathos, featuring an eagle above a recumbent lion on the obverse and the forepart of a lion on the reverse (see Leu 5 (2019), 192).
